More about this project. Portraits of Manhattan was featured in my last Open Studio. The complex layered surfaces of my compositions echoed years of multi-track audio recording. The art of the mix migrated to the canvas. Viewed as a series, the focus persists in a gesture of place as a fragment in time. Myth of the moment is a recurring theme. Color seems to work as a secret agent freeing the borders of representation and abstract orchestration. Working from images gleaned out of photo safari my love of painting plunges the print making process back into canvas and brush. Each image evolves from walking the neighborhood. Stalking time for a glimpse to be abducted into a painting. The depicted concurrence of life and habitat underline their relevance to the communities around them. Similarly, pigment and traces of the brush remain scribed into the surface of the painting. Both the image and the structure are twin stars locked in close orbit.
