Open Mic
SYNOPSIS:
Writer/director Glen River is also a singer songwriter and like other artists was drawn to
open mic. His experiences formed a story of self doubt and overcoming fear. This was
expressed in Mira's Song. The wealth of talent discovered at open mic cried out for a
voice of their own. This voice became Open Mic Singer/Songwriter the movie. Many of
the Featured Artists also appear in Mira's Song. Both movies were shot at the same time.
The locations were The Oasis, and McGillacuddy's in New Paltz New York, and The
Joyous Lake in Woodstock also in New York. Footage was shot with a Canon XL1 and
edited in Adobe Premiere 5.1.
In making this movie I have attempted to provide a clear window into the creative efforts
of artists who have found expression at Open Mic. What I discovered was a wealth of
intelligence and abilities flourishing in the quiet background of our community. I am
amazed at the depths of talent and commitment which I was privileged to
discover. All of the songs are the original creations of the artists.
