In Memory Of Saul Benett

Your Beat

You left without a word, without warning
your name a mirror of absence reflecting her missing parts
and now an unregistered craft of the soul
bound for a distant harbor called reunion

sailors on the air, our words billowed together one last time

I will take with me your kind thoughts
take with me that brave love that did not falter with her passing
your being here, being there
all, held together with a thread of compassion

you came to our table late in the day
and as simple as that, said, there was no time to waist
you scribbled a note before slipping away

there, the naked page obliterating
all in the rigid row save Sara and Saul

I am comforted to know that on that distant shore
your heart is dancing with your daughter's beat
dancing,

here your scribbled note, still teaches winds to billow

here we still learn to dance,

from your beat.
