Portraits Of Place
What we only see as an empty space, is an example of ecological architecture. The Grand Canyon paintings present a reality of time and the collective forces of nature through seasonal events. Ideas of identity referring to a social reality lose their importance against the majesty of nature serene in the partnership with elemental Earth. The existence of being stands on the fulcrum of nature, society and individuality. We, like the Grand Canyon, continue to weather the forces of change. Like the paintings we live in a myth which surrounds us like an atmosphere. Vales of color placing relationships of space and form exposed for our pondering. A quality of spirit alludes to Shinto or perhaps Manitou. Layers of glazed color imitate light and mist. Images tell stories that we might easily miss. We use our cameras to grab life, but we often pass by the momentous and enshrine the mundane. The art is a place we stand on to reherse the poetry of our ability to see. The paintings convey the essence of the portraits of place and the meaning of our journey.
