Somewhere in the future, or sometime in the past

We saw our lives together, but we knew it wouldn't last

We tried to call it something, to remember who we are

To remember where we're going, like a sailor’s northern star

We called it, Sanity

Who could have foreseen, or who could understand

The seeds of hate and violence, which would later come to hand

The greed for more possessions to define communal self

The poverty of spirit, making orphans of identity

And it's not, … Sanity

Many tried to warn us, but we did not want to hear

We had our jobs and profits, and we did not want uncertainty

We did not want to think, and we did not want to know

We did not want to question which way was best to go

And it's not, … Sanity

Chorus:

Sanity, … Sanity, … Sanity!

In the name of one true God, in the name of love or hate.

In the name of what we’ve taken, or what we’ve yet to take

In the name of greed and power, In the name of what we want

In the name of twisted reason, desperation of our thought

It's not, … Sanity

There can be no justice, in mad men’s wars

Populations held hostage by, delusions of supremacy

We've seen the mass destruction, the innocence endure

By the politics of power, we've seen all this before

It is not, … Sanity

Legend has foretold, science tells us now

are tools have shaped our future, we’re obliged to live it now

Fires and floods and earthquakes, as the balance is undone

The lunatics among us, express themselves with guns

It is not, … Sanity

Chorus: Sanity, … Sanity, … Sanity!

The world's still stands before us, our lives remain to live

The choices we will live by, what we take and give

The payment for our losses, the debts still yet to pay

And what we give the future, of us what will they say

It should be, ... Sanity
