Somewhere in the future, or sometime in the past

We saw our lives together, but we knew it wouldn't last

We tried to call it something, to remember who we are

To remember where we're going, like a sailor’s northern star

We called it, Sanity

Who could have foreseen, or who could understand

The seeds of hate and violence, which would later come to hand

The greed for more possessions to define communal self

The poverty of spirit, making orphans of identity

And it's not, … Sanity

Many tried to warn us, but we did not want to hear

We had our jobs and profits, and we did not want uncertainty

We did not want to think, and we did not want to know

We did not want to question which way was best to go

Fires and floods and earthquakes, as the balance is undone

The lunatics among us, express themselves with guns
